MARE participates the annual meeting of the ICES in Greece

Between the 6th and the 10th of March, was the annual meeting of the ICES (International Council for the Exploration of the Sea) working groups on Introduction and Transfer of Marine Organisms (WGITMO) and Ballast Water and Other Introduction Vectors ( WGBOSV). MARE researchers João Canning-Clode (MARE-Madeira) the current coordinator of WGITMO, as well as Paula Chainho (MARE-ULisboa), Cátia Bartilotti (MARE-Nova) and Jorge Lobo Arteaga (MARE-Nova) participated in this meeting. . In these meetings, aspects related to the introduction of non-indigenous species were discussed, namely the occurrence of new invasive species in ICES member countries, the assessment of the risks of introduction and respective vectors, the legal mechanisms and existing working tools to deal with this problem. and the recommendations of the working groups.
