The Kids Dive programme is highlighted in the OSES (Ocean Sustainability through Education and Sports) Good Practice Guide, on how water sports for children and young people generate interest and respect for the oceans and their conservation.
This month, the European project OSES (Ocean Sustainability through Education and Sport) published a good practice guide to encourage sports organisations, schools, environmental NGOs and aquariums to promote education for the protection of the oceans from an early age as part of their nautical activities.
Thirty-one sports and maritime stakeholders have brought together the best educational initiatives currently used in Europe and the rest of the world to encourage respect for the marine environment. To encourage good practice in favour of a cleaner and more sustainable ocean, the guide is divided into 6 action areas:
- Linking schools, water sports and knowledge of the oceans
- Cleaning up the environment
- Citizen science, environmental data collection and monitoring
- Knowledge of sustainable practices in water tourism
- Involvement with local authorities
- Learning about good practices in professional sport
