Maria João Feio in 90 segundos de ciência

Maria João Feio, a researcher at MARE, took part in the radio programme "90 minutes of science" on Antena 1. 90 Seconds of Science is a project of the António Xavier Institute of Chemical and Biological Technology - ITQB NOVA, the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities - FCSH NOVA, both of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, and Antena 1, with the support of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT).

In episode 1839, broadcast on 25 July, Maria João Feio spoke about the OneAquaHealth project, which aims to promote the health of riverine ecosystems in urban areas. In 90 seconds, the researcher explained how this project aims to demonstrate that human health is deeply linked to the proper functioning of these ecosystems.

"This project aims to demonstrate this link through data that we are collecting in five European cities. In each of these cities we are working with 20 urban streams," says Maria João Feio.
According to the researcher, OneAquaHealth also aims to "value these streams, in the sense that we realise that they contain a great deal of biodiversity, both aquatic and terrestrial, and that if this biodiversity is well preserved, it will provide a series of very important services".

The OneAquaHealth project is funded by the European Union under the Horizon Europe programme.
