As part of the Emc2 Project 'Exploring Camarinha Matos da Costa', coordinated by researcher Alexandra Abreu Lima (MARE-ARNET & INIAV, I.P.), a visit was made to the Miramar coastal area in Gaia in July.
During this visit, several female and male plants from the Corema album (L.) D. Don population were identified, with a view to organising environmental education initiatives that will allow students from the region's schools to get to know this plant. Corema album is an endemic species of the Iberian Peninsula whose female plants produce the camarinhas, small white edible fruits.
A team from the Gaia Biological Park and members of the Miramar Golf Club and the Ribeiras de Gaia Environmental Education Centre took part in the visit.
The Emc2 Project is funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT, Portugal), through the strategic projects UIDB/04292/2020 (https://doi.org/10.54499/UIDB/04292/2020) and UIDP/04292/2020 (https://doi.org/10.54499/UIDP/04292/2020) awarded to MARE - Centre for Marine and Environmental Sciences, and the project LA/P/0069/2020 (https://doi.org/10.54499/LA/P /0069/2020) awarded to the Associated Laboratory ARNET - Aquatic Research Network.
