MARE researchers attend Micro 2024 conference

MARE  travelled ‘in force’ to Lanzarote to take part in the MICRO 2024 conference. 

Between september 23rd and 27th, MARE researchers Paula Sobral, Carla Silva, Joana Antunes, Ana Vanessa Alves and João Pequeno attended the event with an oral presentation and four posters on the subject of plastic and microplastic pollution.

The scientific papers presented covered various topics related to plastic and microplastic pollution: from diagnostic results of the presence of microplastics in the River Tagus and their relationship with socio-economic indicators; monitoring of microplastics in mussels and water from the port of Sines; interactions between microplastics and the microbial community of the Tagus estuary; ecotoxicity of plastic additives and its importance for their life cycle impact analysis; and the implementation of an agricultural plastic waste management model for the prevention of plastic and microplastic pollution.
