Sad news
Charles Buchanan Jr. died on March 24 in Washington.
The man of the environment, migration, climate change, entrepreneurship, the sea, social responsibility and so many other good causes has gone.
A director of the Luso-American Foundation from 1988 to 2013, he was responsible for the areas of Science and Technology and the Environment, for the Tripartite Cooperation programs with Europe and the Mediterranean.
During this period, many of us researchers who are currently part of MARE benefited from FLAD grants and projects that enabled us to do more and better science.
He received the A.I.D. Meritorious Honor Award from the American government and the Medal of the Order of Prince Henry the Navigator from the Portuguese government.
In addition to his competence, I remember his joy and good humor and how much he loved Portugal...
Science, research and, above all, Portuguese researchers have lost a good friend today.
