On July 26th, at 4:00 PM, the closing session of the project "Red Book and National Information System for Continental Portugal's Freshwater and Diadromous Fish" will take place at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (Ciências ULisboa). The new Red Book reveals that freshwater and diadromous migratory fish are in a concerning situation.
During the closing session of the project, the results of the assessment of the extinction risk for this group of vertebrates will be presented, as well as the main pressures and threats they face, and the conservation measures and research plans necessary for their conservation.
The National Information System for Freshwater and Diadromous Fish (SNIPAD) will also be presented, a platform that aims to gather and facilitate access to information about the fish in our rivers for multiple users, including the general public, and to be a support tool for scientific research and conservation of these species in Portugal.
The project is coordinated by FCiências.ID - Association for Research and Development in Science, through the research and development units, the Center for Ecology, Evolution, and Environmental Changes (cE3c) and the Center for Marine and Environmental Sciences (MARE), in partnership with the Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests (ICNF), and is funded by POSEUR and the Environmental Fund.
The session is open to the public upon prior registration.
