This year's Science and Technology Week runs from 18 to 24 November and MARE has prepared a number of activities to showcase our scientists, what they research and their contributions to the advancement of knowledge and the well-being of society.
20th November - Food Tides: ‘The Sea in the Orchard’
Seaweed can be an innovative and natural alternative for fruit preservation due to its antioxidant and antimicrobial properties and ability to form edible coatings. In this workshop, researchers Ana Augusto, Maria Joaquina Pinheiro and Susana Silva will show you how algae can contribute to fruit preservation.

Guided by some of MARE's researchers, participants will be able to learn more about the work done in the area of exotic aquatic species, benthic macroinvertebrates and algae in our waters. They will be able to observe different species of organisms and learn more about the techniques used in the different studies carried out at the centre.
