João Canning Clode, coordinator of the Madeira pole of MARE, has participated last week at the Smithsonian MarineGEO Strategic Planning Retreat, which was held at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute (SCBI) in Front Royal, Virginia, USA.
During this retreat, participant of this global network have worked on mission, vision and values statements, as well as developed a rigorous research plan for the next five years.
The Marine Global Earth Observatory (MarineGEO), is a global network of partners focused on understanding how coastal marine ecosystems work. Coordinated monitoring campaigns are being conducted in several seascapes across the world and the inclusion of the Madeira seascape at MARE-Madeira represents the first european site at this global network.
