MARE researchers honoured at the Universidade de Lisboa/Caixa Geral de Depósitos Scientific Awards

Vanessa Fonseca and Catarina Frazão Santos were honoured at this year's University of Lisbon/Caixa Geral de Depósitos Scientific Awards. Vanessa Fonseca was one of the four researchers honoured. Catarina Frazão Santos received an honourable mention.

MARE researcher Vanessa Fonseca works in the areas of marine and estuarine ecology, physiology and ecotoxicology, applied to environmental quality, risk assessment and the sustainability of marine resources. Her research is currently focused on the traceability, provenance and safety of seafood products. Upon being awarded the prize, the researcher will receive a research incentive of 6500 euros.

Catarina Frazão Santos is a researcher and lecturer in marine planning at the University of Lisbon. Her research focuses on the multiple dimensions of ocean sustainability in the context of global environmental change.

The University of Lisbon/Caixa Geral de Depósitos Scientific Awards aim to reward scientific research every year and encourage the practice of international publication of recognised quality and impact. The awards ceremony will take place on 25 June, during the University of Lisbon's scientific conference.
