Pedro Anastácio in 90 segundos de ciência

Pedro Anastácio, a researcher at MARE, took part in the radio programme "90 minutes of science" on Antena 1.  90 Segundos de Ciência is a project of the António Xavier Institute of Chemical and Biological Technology (ITQB NOVA), the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences (FCSH NOVA), both of Universidade Nova de Lisboa, and Antena 1, with the support of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT).

In episode no. 1618, broadcast again on 13 August, Pedro Anastácio spoke about the LIFE INVASAQUA project, which studies invasive alien species in inland freshwater areas such as rivers, lakes and estuaries on the Iberian Peninsula. In 90 seconds, the researcher explained how this project promotes the dissemination of information on aquatic invasive species in Portugal and Spain.

"This LIFE INVASAQUA project is a communication project, but it's a communication project with a very strong scientific component," explained Pedro Anastácio. "We work a lot on surveys that allow us to understand how people perceive the problem of invasive species and what behaviours they have in relation to these species."

As part of the project, MARE and the University of Évora are currently promoting a travelling exhibition and various training courses for organisations such as CEPNA and the Nature Watchers, which implement legislation on invasive species.
