MARE Director, Pedro Raposo de Almeida, introduces MARE, this time in French. In an interview with Lisboète Magazine, he explains what MARE is, how it's organized, and its role in society. While MARE researchers study aquatic ecosystems to promote their sustainable use, it is equally important to spred this message to everyone. Therefore, Pedro Raposo de Almeida emphasizes that "regarding the transfer of knowledge to public, my previous professional experience at the Ministry of the Environment tells me that it's a very powerful tool. It is impossible to do anything without public support. In the context of creating Marine Protected Areas, for example, everything falls apart if the population is not involved, and if we do not explain the benefits, disadvantages, planned schedule, etc. When it comes to removing some obsolete dams and building fish passages, we also work closely with individuals, as many of the areas involved belong to private owners. Once again, it is a process that requires a lot of patience and knowledge transfer.'
