MARE was represented at the SINOPORT Ocean Conference 2024, which took place at the University of São José in Macau on 27 and 28 November 2024.
This conference aimed to strengthen Sino-Portuguese collaboration in marine biology research, facilitating the exchange of knowledge and scientific advances between Chinese and Portuguese researchers. It was also an opportunity to promote joint research initiatives in the areas of marine sciences and ocean sustainability, and to strengthen academic partnerships and international cooperation.
The 5th Annual Meeting of the International Joint Research Centre for Marine Biology was attended by MARE's Director, Pedro Raposo de Almeida and Deputy Director, João Canning-Clode, who joined the directors of Portugal's other four main marine research centres (CCMAR, CIIMAR, CESAM, OKEANUS). In this way, it was possible to establish new partnerships and discuss future joint initiatives.
Co-organised by Shanghai Ocean University and the University of the Algarve, this year's edition also included the participation of the University of São José, Macau, marking a milestone in Sino-Portuguese cooperation, with alternating editions between Portugal and China.
