One of the aims of the Emc2 project is to promote a connection with nature through visits to coastal areas, turning them into a privileged place for teaching and learning science and botany. Recently, the project was included in a book on the Portuguese Crowberry research carried out by teams of researchers from Portugal and Spain.
The Portuguese Crowberry, scientific name Corema album (L.) D. Don, is a dioecious plant endemic to dune ecosystems on the Atlantic coast of the Iberian Peninsula and to tree cover where the pine dominates. The camarinha has white (or pink) fruit with great potential for the small fruit sector.
The Emc2 project began in 2016 in Moledo, after the shrikes population in the Moledo Dune declined. Since 2017, it has been multiplying these plants by cuttings, with the collaboration of researchers from INIAV IP, the Moledo and Cristelo parishes, the municipality of Caminha and the COREMA association.
This work led to the book “A journey through research in Corema álbum”, which aims to disseminate the work carried out by various teams of Spanish and Portuguese researchers in the field of portuguese crowberry research.
In this regard, the Emc2 project - 'Exploring the Coastal Meadows of the Camarinha' - is described in the book, presenting the various stake multiplication and environmental education initiatives carried out with primary and secondary school pupils from local schools. The book also describes the main results of the project.
