MARE researcher João Canning-Clode took part in the Mirpuri Foundation Forum, which took place on July 5th in Cascais.
This event is a collaboration between the Mirpuri Foundation and The Explorers Club - Portugal Chapter, which served as a platform for renowned national and international leaders to debate the main environmental challenges and explore innovative solutions for ocean sustainability and conservation.
João Canning-Clode took part in the meeting as Edinburgh Ocean Leader, as part of the "Climate-Foward Partnerships and Conservation Initiatives" panel, alongside other renowned members such as marine biologist Carlos Duarte and IUCN Director General Grethel Aguilar. At this round table, the various panelists had the opportunity to share ideas on partnerships and initiatives aimed at combating climate change and promoting sustainable practices.
In a press release, the researcher and founder of MARE-Madeira said he was "honored to be able to share his professional experience, particularly on the role of creativity in research in the region", and that "to be able to compete with the great international references, I would have to develop two extremely important aspects: creativity and international collaborations". In this context, the researcher's ambition is to create an academy for secondary school students in the areas of ocean literacy, nature conservation, communication, entrepreneurship and the blue economy.
