MAREFOZ wins Research Award at the 31st Anniversary Gala of Diário As Beiras

On April 1, as part of its 31st anniversary, Diário As Beiras honored personalities and institutions for their work and projects.

The Research/Science Prize was awarded to MAREFOZ and received by the coordinator of this Research Group, João Neto, a MARE researcher at the Regional Research Unit of the University of Coimbra.

MAREFOZ was distinguished for having been an example in the practical implementation of the blue economy in Portugal. As this is a developing area in Portugal, the laboratory has been “breaking new ground” on a path that, according to João Neto, “hasn't been easy, but it has been rewarding in a way, because with the results we've been achieving and the help we've been providing, it's been interesting”.

MAREFOZ, set up in the Sea and Industry Incubator with the support of the Municipality of Figueira da Foz, celebrated its 9th anniversary this year. It is a research group that values its relationship with society, whether in the partnerships it develops, the services it provides or even the science communication initiatives it promotes for the school and local community.
